How to String and Destring Your Shark Guitar

The Shark Convertible Bridge uses Set Screws at both bridge and nut to anchor strings directly. No ball-end retention points. Exceptional tuning stability. The process is straightforward once you know the sequence.

This guide covers installing new strings and removing old ones.

Before You Begin

Spring adjustment: Different string gauges need different spring tension for proper bridge alignment. Heavier strings need more tension. See "How to Adjust Spring Tension for String Gauges on the Shark Bridge" for details.

What You Need

• Your Shark Guitar

• New string set

• No. 3 Hex Key (provided with your Shark Guitar - any standard hex 3 key works)

• Wire cutters or string cutters

• Flat, safe work surface

Installing New Strings

1. Prepare the Bridge Place your guitar on a flat, safe surface. Engage Maintenance Mode on the Shark Bridge.

2. Set Tuning Knobs to Starting Position Turn all tuning knobs so their screw levels are all the way up. This gives maximum tuning range when bringing strings to pitch.

3. Prepare Set Screws Loosen all Set Screws at both nut and bridge using the Hex Key. This lets strings pass through freely.

4. Install Each String (Starting with Low E)

• Pass the thick E string through the nut hole. Slide it through until you reach the bridge string holder.

• At the bridge: Insert string into the Set Screw hole. Tighten firmly but not overtight. Secure, not crushed.

• At the nut: Pull the string taut from the headstock side. While holding tension, tighten the nut Set Screw firmly.

• Initial tensioning: Turn the tuning knob slightly. String should be loose but taut - not floppy, nowhere near pitch.

• Repeat for each string, low E to high E.

5. Remove Ball Ends Pull the slide latch to release and remove the String Carrier. Cut the ball ends off where they exit the nut. They're waste - strings are held by Set Screws, not ball ends.

6. Reinstall the Nut Place the String Carrier back on the nut base. Press firmly with both thumbs until it clicks. Verify the latch is fully engaged.

7. Exit Maintenance Mode Take the bridge out of Maintenance Mode. This applies tension to the strings. See "How to Engage Maintenance Mode on the Shark Convertible Bridge" for proper technique.

8. Tune to Pitch Bring each string to target pitch. See "How to Tune Your Shark Guitar" for detailed guidance. New strings stretch and settle over the first several sessions. Expect to retune frequently at first.

Important Tips

• Thinner strings: Pull B and high E strings tighter at the nut before tightening the Set Screw. Extra pre-tension makes tuning easier.

• Set Screw tightness: Firm enough to prevent slippage, not so tight they crush the string. Secure anchoring, not compression.

• String training: Make several tuning passes. Between passes, work the tremolo arm through its range. This trains new strings by working out stretch and settling them into anchor points.

• String gauge changes: Different gauges need different spring configurations. Changing to heavier or lighter strings requires spring tension adjustment. See "How to Adjust Spring Tension for String Gauges on the Shark Bridge."

Removing Old Strings

1. Prepare Your Workspace Place your Shark Guitar on a flat, safe, secure surface.

2. Engage Maintenance Mode Take the bridge into Maintenance Mode. This removes string tension and makes removal safe. See "How to Engage Maintenance Mode on the Shark Convertible Bridge."

3. Detune for Safety Turn the tuning knobs to loosen strings further. This removes residual tension.

4. Loosen Set Screws Start from either bridge or nut. Loosen Set Screws just enough to pull string tips out. No need to remove screws completely.

5. Remove Strings Take out each string one by one. Pull them free from their anchor points.

Option: Partial Destringing Leave nut side attached and only remove bridge side strings. Useful for tremolo work (spring adjustments) without fully destringing or damaging strings. Reattach to bridge Set Screws when done.

6. Exit Maintenance Mode If you've fully removed all strings, return the bridge to either Tremolo Mode or Fixed-Bridge Mode before installing new strings.

Set Screw anchoring at both ends eliminates the slippage common with ball-end systems. Combined with micro-roller string bed and titanium structure, this creates exceptional tuning stability. Fixed anchor points at both ends, zero friction between. Maintenance Mode integration means string changes happen without fighting tension - faster and more controlled.
